The 2019 vintage defied all assumptions to produce wines of deep concentration and power. A warm, dry spring developed into a hot summer, the season’s saviour being classically cool Heathcote evenings that balanced the ripeness that developed in abundance.

The generosity of fruit coming from the Greenstone vineyard allowed the 2019 La La an astounding 52 months in new oak before bottling in August 2023, the longest maturation period for any wine we’ve ever produced; a wine still young even with six years of age, and primed for graceful longevity.

Bold in deep blood red-garnet hues, it opens with a fragrance rich in ripe black fruits, dark baking spices, dried cranberry, sage, anise, dusty cacao, cardamom and a hint of black pepper. It’s complex, still unfolding even as a 6yo, gloriously earthy and bold and at the same time offering a fineness of expression across the mid-palate enlivened by herbs and spice and delivered in elegant, fine tannins. Judging by its length and detailed construction, its got some ways still to go”
