2016 vintage provided Heathcote, like many other Victorian regions excellent conditions. Perfect hand-picked Brunello Clone Sangiovese is responsible for the 2016 Foster e Rocco Sangiovese. Very simple handling in the winery wild yeast ferment with hand plunging and extended amount of time on skins 22 days.
As the Sangiovese is our more traditional expression we are committed to producing the best varietal wine we can. We have been striving to release this wine at a stage of harmony and optimal drinking from release. 3 years provides time for balance in the wine with acid & tannin folding back and secondary flavours building.
Brick red rim in appearance, tobacco red cherry and cedar aromatics, layered compact fruits in the red spectrum, complex dry herbal notes, sage tobacco and earth on the palate. Fresh stream of acid supporting the fruit, dense savoury fine tannin sits nicely in the background.
A wine already showing great Sangiovese complexity from release that will continue to build and provide cellaring for another 10+ years.
